BIM and 3D Modeling in Project Management
BIM-supported construction project management is becoming more and more widespread worldwide. The same trend can be observed in Central Europe, as well. (Further information on BIM) It is important to note that project management and 3D modeling are in practice two fields to be managed completely separately, based on close cooperation. One tool of BIM-supported project management is integrated design management whose output is the 3D model of the building. Each of our clients (investors, main contractors, facility management firms, etc.) may have different reasons for integrating BIM into their practice, which may also affect the opportunities and the optimal time for the introduction of the methodology.

The possible applications of BIM are summerized in the table above (source: RICS Academy). The operational processes of the project organization can be changed to be in line with the BIM methodology depending on what the fundamental goals are. Universal truths like “the sooner the better” are valid in this case as well, i.e. the sooner the real estate development, planning processes are brought in line with BIM, the lower the risks and the more efficient the project can be. Therefore, contact us, if you would like to support your projects with BIM.

Since there are no standards for BIM in Hungary so far, our methodology is based on the adaptation of international standards and procedures. The definition of the goals, demands, the tasks aimed to achieve these as well as the selection of responsible person are part of our project management consultancy service. The milestone of the process are shown on the flow chart below (Source: PAS 1192:2 (2013)):

Based on our experience, in most of the cases our clients need the following documents for the application of the BIM methodology: In order to avoid misunderstandings, we would like to state that we believe that the 3D model of the building is very important and utterly necessary, moreover, in our point of view, it should always be developed together with all the other plans by the design team. However, in our opinion, it matters when each part is done, what information complements them, because all these affect not only the efficiency of BIM, but also the work outside BIM. Of course, with the help of our partners, we undertake the creation of 3D models, the check and correction of already existing models in order to relieve the design team.
